Lauretta Olayinka Togonu-Bickersteth is a Hospitality Consultant and Senior Lecturer /Food Scientist of the Department of Hospitality, Wavecrest College of Hospitality, Surulere, Lagos. The Platinum Winner for Best Educational Institution 2010, 2011 & 2012, West African Tourism & Hospitality Awards (WATHA). She is a graduate of Food Science and Technology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and has a Diploma in Education from the University of Ibadan. She holds a Master degree in Hospitality from the University of West London (formerly Thames valley University), UK. In 2014 she received the AWARD (African Women in Agricultural Research and development) fellowship award, given to 70 Women from 1,109 women considered, in 11 countries of Africa.
From 1998 she has specialized in developing the manpower within the hospitality and tourism industry in Nigeria, in skills training centres/projects.
Her professional experience includes developing training solutions, for numerous hospitality entrepreneurs to improve service delivery and customer’s satisfaction, and revenue generation from repeat guest. Included to women and men passionate about hospitality and tourism; a variety of food service business holders, and a wide range of hospitality organizations, in the accommodation and food service sector.
she has delivered lectures and training on etiquette to men and women, hospitality graduates, business executives at the PAN Atlantic University Lekki Lagos,Nigeria; and in other independent organisations, brand hotels and at youth forums.
Lauretta has also got involved in the development of FMCG and Agric business (such as pachamama foods at start-ups to promote Nigeria’s indigenous crops utilisation from smallholder farmers in rural communities.
Thus, she is currently the food technologist consultant of ( Wavecrest College recipes) – she works closely with the research & development team to advise on creating and plannijng innovative, simple, delicious and healthy new recipes that showcases foods in various unique ways.

Her believe in gender-responsive solutions-women and men- as means of “transformative power of robust and sustainable solutions within reach” has made her get involved, with her Food science background, in the Agricultural sector, and research, to yield enduring improvement in the quality and relevance of the agricultural value chain, that are relevant to smallholder farmers, most of whom are women, in Agriculture via the Hospitality industry.
Her background expertise also includes the use of a variety of teaching techniques to encourage students to develop life skills and critical thinking, necessary for working in Hospitality operations. In addition to teaching and training graduates for the hospitality industry in Wavecrest College, Lauretta also is involved in capacity building of various categories of Staff in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry.
Her key competencies are Food product research, development and processing, hospitality & Tourism training need assessment and delivery such as customer service skills, curriculum development, service operation and management, facilities management, Cooperate social Etiquette, Relevant Professional Fashion/appearance tips and grooming, personal hygiene, Food hygiene and safety, business model design, service innovation and idea generation.
Lauretta also provides advisory services related to food service operations/kitchen design, initial start-up hospitality business innovation and consultation. Lauretta also works as a strategic consultant in various aspects of hospitality and Tourism.
Lauretta is passionate about mentoring young girls, and people linked with the Hospitality and Tourism industry, to develop in them the capacities and skills that relate to delivering exceptional Hospitality and Tourism services.
For many years now she has nurtured, trained, supported and educated the Hospitality industry’s most important asset- PEOPLE.
She is the present Deputy National Secretary of the HATMAN (Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria) association, a professional body for the hospitality industry in Nigeria. With around 3,000 members in 36 states, and the Federal capital territory, established in 1996. It identifies, promotes and maintains the highest professional and ethical standards for management, education and training in the hospitality and tourism industry in Nigeria.
Lauretta is also the immediate past Honourable Secretary of the Institute of Hospitality, UK Nigeria International Branch; and a Fellow of the Institute in the UK. The institute in the UK is the International Professional body for individual Managers, aspiring managers and professionals working and studying in the hospitality, Leisure and Tourism (HLT) Industry.
